Zora C. Rice, 86, North Richland Hills, Texas, formerly of Topeka, passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2006.
Zora was born January 14, 1920 in Cameron, Texas, the daughter of W.L. and Zora C. Fokes Wilkerson.
She received her B.A. from the University of Texas, Austin and did graduate work in Library Science at Emporia State University. She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
Zora taught grade school in Texas and worked for the Kansas State Legislature in the Legislative Reference Department for 10 years. She was the librarian at Topeka High School and Jardine Junior High for seven years.
She was active in A.A. U.W., Friends of the Public Library and First Baptist Church where she serves as librarian for over 20 years.
Zora married Orville O. Rice on August 29, 1943 in Austin, Texas. He died January 4, 1986. Survivors include two daughters; Dinah L. Chancellor, Southlake, Texas and Kathy G. Parsons, Springfield, Missouri; 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
A Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 12, 2006 at the Lattimore Chapel of First Baptist Church. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Library, 3033 SW MacVicar, Topeka, Kansas 66611. Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
