Winifred Leslie Tice, 96, of Topeka, formerly of Abilene, KS passed away Thursday, December 24, 2009.
She was born November 8, 1913 in Beloit, KS, the daughter of Ora L. and Ola (Gilliland) Leslie. She was a graduate of Beloit High School and received teacher training at Emporia State University.
She was a teacher for four years in rural one-room schools near Beloit, KS. She also taught piano and was a life-time member of the Presbyterian Church, serving as a Deacon and Elder, taught Sunday School, and attended National and State Presbyterian Women's Conventions. She sang in church choirs, and participated in the Mariner's Club.
Winifred married Charles B. Tice on May 25, 1936 at the Hopewell Church in Beloit, KS. He preceded her in death on May 21, 1978. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Howard and Keith. Survivors include her children, Barbara Atkinson (John) of St. Joseph, MO, Larry L. Tice (Ann) of Overland Park, KS, Loren C. Tice (Dorothy) of Lexington, KY, and Duane L. Tice (Sharry) of New Holland, PA; her sister, Lois L. Rupe (C. Orvis) of Elkhart, IN; her sister-in-law, Helen Leslie of Roswell, GA; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mrs. Tice has been cremated. Memorial services will be 11 a.m., Monday, December 28, 2009 at the Jellison Chapel at Topeka Presbyterian Manor, 4712 SW 6th Avenue, Topeka, KS 66606 and a memorial service at 11 a.m., Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at First Presbyterian Church, 817 SW Harrison, Topeka, 66612. Graveside inurnment will be at Hopewell Cemetery, Beloit, KS.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, Topeka, First Presbyterian Church, Abilene, KS or to the Good Samaritan Fund at Topeka Presbyterian Manor. Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, Topeka, KS is assisting the family.
