Wilson was born June 5, 1921 in Deep Water, NJ., the son of James H. and Mabel (Steele) Jones.
After graduation from high school in 1939, Wilson enlisted in the U.S. Army. He became a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps and flew nearly fifty missions during World War II as the pilot and aircraft commander of a B-24 Liberator Bomber. He was recalled to active military service, in the U.S. Air Force, in 1951, during the Korean War. As before, he flew numerous missions as an aircraft commander, this time in B-29's. He remained in the Air Force until he retired in 1969 with the rank of Lt. Colonel. He flew commuters and charters for Allen Aviation for several years after retiring from the Air Force.
