Wilmer Johnson, 92, of Topeka, passed away November 20, 2013. He was born July 12, 1921, in Osage City, the son of Adolph and Henrietta Johnson. He was a graduate of Osage City High before serving in World War II from 1942-1945 in the Army Medical Corps. He received a Bronze Star and Purple Heart for his service. Wilmer worked for McCaigs Inc. and McElroy Inc. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he served on the property committee; American Legion; and Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 441.
On October 21, 1950, in Longmont, Colorado, he married Evelyn Ross. She survives. Other survivors include three children, Craig (Alexandra) Johnson of Minneapolis. Minnesota, Kathleen Johnson, MD (Fernando Burstein, MD) of Marietta, Georgia, and Rod Johnson of Burnsville, Minnesota; four grandchildren, Larisa Johnson, Ross Johnson, Sarah Burstein, and Mario Burstein; and sister, Ruby Burgat of Prescott City, Arizona.
A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 23, 2013, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 731 SW Buchanan, Topeka. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00-7:30 p.m. today at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Avenue, Topeka. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church or Grace Hospice.
