Wilma Lanning, 89, of Topeka, passed away Thursday, September 19, 2019.
She was born August 31, 1930, in Rice County, Kansas, the daughter of Elmer and Charlotte (Scott) Manges. She graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1948. She received an Associate Degree in Arts from Hutchinson Junior College in 1950.
Wilma was a talented woman. She was talented in all aspects of home life, including oil painting, gardening, cooking and sewing. She taught 4H sewing for 25 years. She would construct dresses for all occasions, including for her own wedding and those of her daughter's. She could make anything and everything. She was blessed to pass down a lot of things to her children. Together they would can food they picked from their garden and knit and weave from the wool provided to them from animals they raised at their residence. She collected Depression glass and antique dolls, for which she made all of their clothing.
She was patient, kind and she had a love for her family. She was a past member of the Lioness and Lions Club in Fallbrook, California. While Don was in medical school, she taught 3rd Grade for one year and was a long distance telephone operator. Together they traveled in their travel trailer to all 50 states.
Wilma married Donald Lanning on June 1, 1951 in Hutchinson, he survives. Other survivors include children, Sabrina (Rick) Finn, Scott (Theresa) Lanning, Brad Lanning and Heather (Ed) Lanning-Eller; grandchildren, Brian (Sarah) Lanning, Aaron (Betty) Lanning, Randy (Katie) Lanning, Jonathan Lanning, Richard Finn, Katrina (Christian) Johnston, Nathaniel Eller and Katherine Eller; brothers, Harry Manges and Loren Manges and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Gregory "Greg" Clarke and a sister, Phyllis Pace.
A Celebration of her Life will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 24, 2019 at the Countryside United Methodist Church, 3221 SW Burlingame Rd., Topeka. Private interment will take place at a later date.
Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life 11:00 a.m., Saturday November 23, 2019, at Harveston Park, Village Park Rd, Temecula, California.
