Wilma Jean Huggins

Wilma Jean Reagan Huggins, 87, of Topeka, passed away Friday, April 6, 2007 at McCrite Plaza.

She was born August 16, 1919 in Shenandoah, Iowa, daughter of Frank W. and Lottie M. Reagan. She graduated from Topeka High in 1938. On June 11, 1940 she was united in marriage to Miller Huggins in Liberty, Missouri. He preceded her in death.

Wilma Jean was the first nursing home volunteer in the State of Kansas to receive a 1,000 Hour Certificate from the S.R.S. She was an active volunteer from 1957 until 1993. In 1967, she was named Volunteer of the Year by the Volunteer Bureau. In 1971, she received a Service-to-Mankind Certificate from the Noon Sertoma Club and in 1982 was the recipient of a Service-to Mankind Certificate from the Evening Sertoma Club.

Wilma Jean was a member of Highland Park United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and the Santa Fe Employees Club.

She is survived by her daughter, Charlotte Brown, her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service for Mrs. Huggins will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at Highland Park United Methodist Church. Private inurnment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery. Arrangements are with Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Memorial contributions may be given to Highland Park United Methodist Church or Midland Hospice.
