Wilma Florence Block, 91, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2012.
She was born June 14, 1920 on a farm home east of Lincoln, KS, the daughter of William Abraham and Esther Iona (Line) Rippie Meili.
Mrs. Block was employed by the State Board of Agriculture in Topeka from 1959, retiring in 1982. After retiring, she worked in food service for USD-501 and volunteered in various school classrooms and the library for many years. She has always been an active part of her grandchildren's education and lives.
She was a member and Deacon of John Knox Presbyterian Church in Topeka and later transferred her membership to Trinity Presbyterian Church, Topeka in December 1987. She was active in the Order of the Eastern Star in Lincoln, KS and Job's Daughters in Topeka.
Wilma married Robert F. Block on March 13, 1940 in Ellsworth, KS. Robert served in the U.S. Navy and they were stationed at various locations, finally moving to Topeka in 1956. He preceded her in death on February 24, 1997. Survivors include daughters, Roberta K. (Charles) Schiffelbein, Tecumseh, KS and Mary Lou (Virgil) Graham, Topeka; grandsons, Chris Schiffelbein, Keith Graham; granddaughters, Tracy McCrory, Katie Titus; three great-granddaughters; four great-grandsons; sisters, Alice Block, Dorothy Meier, JoAnn Hemmer; and brother, William Meili. She was also preceded in death by brothers, Ray & Bob Meili, and Albert Rippie.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 14, 2012 at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 4746 W. 21st. St., Topeka, KS 66604. The family will receive friends from 9:30 until the service hour. A graveside ceremony will follow at 2:30 pm, Saturday at the Vesper Cemetery near Lincoln, KS. Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel in Topeka is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wilma Block Great-Grandsons' Medical Fund, sent in care of US Bank, Topeka, KS.
