William (Bill) Smith, Sr.

William (Bill) Smith Sr., 93, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, April 28, 2019.
He was born November 1, 1925, in Franklin, Nebraska, the son of Francis and Daisie (Baker) Smith.
Bill married Julia Maus at her parents' home on July 30, 1946. She preceded him in death on March 22, 2006. Survivors include a daughter, Jeannine Dodds; son, William "Sam" (Cynthia A.) Smith, Jr. and daughter Janet (Rod) Sommer; 6 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Cheryl Foster; son-in-law, Dewey Dodds; siblings, Mary Snoddy, Eugene Smith and Avis Smith.
He worked in construction as well as managed his own farm. He had a lifelong love for farming. He and his wife, Julia, purchased a farm in 1950 near Harveyville, Kansas, that he actively farmed until two years ago, but was involved with until his death.
He loved to travel the country with his wife. He enjoyed attending music shows and loved playing all sorts of games, including bingo. He was a man of his faith and above all else, he loved being with family and friends including his new family at the Healthcare Resort.
The family will greet friends during a visitation from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at Penwell-Gabel - Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Avenue, Topeka. A Funeral Ceremony will be 10:00 a.m., on Thursday, May 2, 2019 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Auburn Cemetery, in Auburn.
