William Clayton Slagle II, 85, Topeka, died of cancer, September 5, 2017 at his home.
Bill was born in Lima, Ohio September 27, 1931 to Freeda (Clay) and Roland W. Slagle. They preceded him in death. He graduated from Shortridge High School in Indianapolis, Indiana and attended Indiana University. He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Greenland. He was a member of the Boy Scouts and received his Eagle Scout Award in Indianapolis. Bill was employed by E.J. Brach Candy Company, Chicago for 33 years as their Kansas Sales Representative retiring in 1970. During his retirement he sold beef jerky and speciality candies to convenience stores in Kansas and Missouri and later drove for several new and used car agencies in Topeka.
Bill married Janice (Nance) Slagle April 9, 1960 in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include one son, William Slagle III of Jacksonville, Fla., and two daughters, Julia Ann Slagle Wimmer (Keith) of Hackettstown, NJ, and Angela Kay Slagle Haynes (Greg) of Fayetteville, NC. Mr. Slagle is also survived by six grandchildren, Benjamin Slagle, Kyle Slagle, and Kayle Slagle all of Jacksonville; Allison Haynes and Elizabeth Haynes, Fayetteville, and Valerie Wimmer, Hackettstown, two great grandchildren, a sister Patricia Gaskell, Tampa, Fla. and a brother, Bud Slagle (Anne) Carmel, Ind. and nieces and nephews.
Mr. Slagle was cremated. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 7, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel. Private family inurnment will take place at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery.
