William R. "Bill" Kelly, 81, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, September 4, 2010.
He was born December 20, 1928 in Albuquerque, NM, the son of Emmett J. and Dorothy (Sutherland) Kelly. He was a 1947 graduate of Topeka High School. He attended Washburn University and later served in the United States Air Force from September of 1950 to September 1954.
Bill married Jean L. Ladbury on February 4, 1951 in Topeka.
He was employed by Dupont from 1958 retiring in 1985.
He was affiliated with the First Baptist Church and the First Christian Church. He was active in Troop #7 of the Boy Scouts of America.
Survivors include his wife, Jean of Topeka; a son, Bill S. (Jane) Kelly of Topeka; two grandchildren, Kyle and Jordan Kelly, a sister, Janice S. (Dwane) Spohn of Sanibel, FL and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral ceremonies will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at the First Baptist Church, 3033 SW Mac Vicar, Topeka, KS 66611. Military honors and entombment will follow at the Mt. Hope Mausoleum. Mr. Kelly will lie in state after 3 p.m., Tuesday at the Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, where the family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church or to Alzheimer's Association, 4125 SW Gage Center Dr., Suite LL15, Topeka, KS 66604.
