William M. "Bill" Phillips, 86, of Topeka, passed away Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at his home.
He was born December 3, 1921 in Burlington, Kansas, the son of William M. and Agnes Hanson Phillips, Sr. He attended Burlington Schools for twelve years, then went to a business college in Kansas City, MO. He served in the United States Army during WW II.
In 1946, Mr. Phillips was employed by Goodyear Tire and Rubber for one year. He later owned and operated Phillips Business Equipment Company in Topeka.
He was a member of the American Legion, Capitol Post No. 1, and V.F.W., Post No 1650, Topeka Masonic Lodge No 17 and a 32nd degree of the Scottish Rite, and the Arab Shrine.
Bill married Josephine Alstrum on June 6, 1948. She preceded him in death on November 15, 1999. He was also preceded in death by a son, Robert Phillips on October 18, 1994 and a brother, Carl Phillips. Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Miller and her husband, Jim of Topeka; and six grandchildren.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m., Thursday, July 10, 2008 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel inTopeka. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner's Children's Hospital. Inunment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Topeka.
