William Monteith, 85, passed away on February 27, 2004, after having a heart attack. He was born on September 5, 1918, in Glasgow, Scotland. He was the son of William and Agnes Monteith. He came to the United States when he was 13 years old. He served in the Army for 4 years as a Signal Corpsman in North Carolina during WWII. He came to Topeka after marrying his wife, Roberta Abell. She preceded him in death. He worked as an appliance repairman for various companies and retired from Pruitt Appliance in 1994. He was known to his customers as "Scottie."
He was also preceded in death by his son, William Robert Monteith, and a great grandson, Michael S. Bigger.
Survivors include his daughter, Jeanette Bigger, one granddaughter and three great grandchildren, all of Topeka.
Funeral Services will be held at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, 10:00 A.M., Monday, March 1, 2004. William will lie in state from 1:00pm Sunday and a family visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army or Topeka Rescue Mission.
