William Melvin "Mel" Coultis, 93, Berryton, passed away Friday, December 25, 2015 at Midland Hospice House.
Mel was born December 22, 1922 in Berryton, the son of William and Esther (Land) Coultis. He graduated from Berryton High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was a printer, having worked primarily in the Topeka area, but also working in print shops on both coasts; was a partner in Arrow Engraving, and retired from Mainline printing in 1987.
He was a member of Craftsman Club, the Moose, Carousel Dance Club and the V.F.W.
Melvin married Ruth Ellen Pearsall on September 21, 1946. She died November 14, 1988. He married Thelma "Peg" Lehman on September 29, 1990. She died January 16, 2009. Survivors include daughter, Mary Alice (David) Manley, Auburn; son, Lloyd (Sandy) Coultis, Berryton; grandchildren, Jason (Farrah) Manley, Jennifer (Harold) Slack, Christine (Eric) Scott, Blake (Kari) Coultis; and 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Ronnie Coultis; sisters, Wilma Vail, Inez Benander, Marguerite Kahler, Maxine Vail; and great-grandson, Trenton Brooks.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel. Burial with military honors will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
