William Mady Graves, 82, Topeka, passed away January 25, 2007 at a Topeka hospital.
He was an only child, born January 24, 1925 in Kansas City, MO to Poppy Mady and William Graves. William was preceded in death by both parents.
He graduated from R.T. Cole High School in Kansas City, MO and later moved to Lexington, MO. William moved from Lexington, MO to Topeka, KS in 1957 where he married his wife, Elsie M. Reddick. They were married 45 years. She preceded him in death in 2002.
William was a World War II veteran who served in the US Navy from 1943-45, receiving an honorable discharge as a Seaman 1st Class. He worked for the Shawnee County Refuse Department for 28 years. He was a truck driver and worked with the Auto Maintenance Department before retiring in 1990.
Survivors include three stepdaughters, Janice Graham (Floyd), Theresa Boldridge and Rachael Boldridge, all of Topeka; a stepson, Leon Boldridge III (Debora), Chula Vista, CA; eight step-grandchildren and four step great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 29, 2007 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will be at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery (formerly Memorial Park). Mr. Graves will lie in state after 1:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home where visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.
