William John "Bill" Moriarty, Jr., 82, of Topeka, Kansas, passed from this life to the next on September 5th, 2013.
Bill was born on December 10th, 1930 in Providence, RI, the oldest child of William J. and Antoinette (Forand) Moriarty. He attended schools in Providence.
Bill served in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years at numerous bases throughout the world, retiring in 1972 with the rank of Technical Sergeant. Following his retirement from the Air Force, Bill worked as a Procurement Officer for the Kansas Highway Patrol for 20 years, retiring in 1995.
Bill met his wife, Dorothy Jean Hope, while Bill was stationed at Forbes Air Force Base in Topeka. Bill married Dorothy on December 31, 1952. Dorothy died March 21st, 2011. Three sons, Kevin (Barbara Allen), Terry and Shawn completed their family. Son Terry passed from this world on December 26th, 1994. Dorothy and Bill have 6 wonderful grandchildren, Collette, Colin, Jeremy, Shannon, Kelly and Erin Moriarty, and one great granddaughter, Miranda White. Bill is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Other survivors include sister, Carol O'Neil; brother, James Moriarty (Carolyn); and sisters-in-law, Annabelle Rinehart (Mark), and Carol Patridge (Ray). Bill was also preceded in death by his sister, Marilyn Boyer; and brother-in-law, Max Hope.
Bill coached the Blue's baseball teams for several years in Topeka and Pop Warner football in Rhode Island. After traveling the world together, Bill and Dorothy enjoyed traveling throughout the United States. They were avid Boston Red Sox fans.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 13th, 2013 at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Bill will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel after 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 12th, and visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
