William J. Jones, 68, of Topeka, died January 6, 2010 at home with his wife at his side.
Bill Jay was born June 6, 1941, in Osage City, KS, the son of the late William L. and Genevieve Jones. He was the oldest of five siblings. On January 6, 1991 he married Brenda Fergason.
He served in the U.S. Army in 1961. Following a lengthy rehabilitation from a diving accident Bill graduated from Emporia State University with an MBA in vocational counseling. Bill was employed by the State of Kansas as a Disability Determination Examiner for over 30 years. Bill was a member of First Assembly of God in Topeka, KS and the Jaycee's. He received the 50th Anniversary Award from Governor Robert Docking for outstanding achievement in overcoming the adversity of disability. Bill serves as an inspiration to all.
He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Brenda; daughter, Robin Hawkins, Garden City, KS; daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Doug Krause, Manitou Springs, Co; son and daughter-in-law, Leland and Julie Krich, Colorado Springs, CO; his grandchildren, Jason, Dylan and Jake Hawkins; Tyler Krich and Anna Bridges; Elias, Josiah and Hali Krause; and two great grandchildren, Anthony and Owen Hawkins; his sisters, Joi Jay and Kathy Lincoln and his brothers, Mike Jones and Pat Jones as well as many close friends.
Bill will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. A funeral ceremony will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 9, 2010 at the First Assembly of God, Topeka. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Osage City, KS. The family requests memorial contributions are given to Midland Hospice Care or to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
