William J. Birch

June 22, 1934 — June 27, 2015

William J. "Bill" Birch, 81, of Topeka, passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2015 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka. He was born June 22, 1934 in Parsons, KS, the son of Larry and Louise Spalding Birch.

Bill graduated from high school in Greensburg, KS and graduated from Kansas State University where he obtained a BS in Business Administration. He then attended Washburn University where he earned a Juris Doctorate law degree. Bill served in the U.S. Army from February, 1955 until March, 1957.

He worked in Association Management for 43 years and was President of Association Services Corporation. He was previously a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church and later Christ the King Catholic Church.

Bill married Alice M. Gerstenkorn on December 27, 1955 in Great Bend, KS. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Michael J. Birch of Lawrence, Christopher D. (Amy) Birch of Topeka, two grandchildren, Elizabeth and Everett and his sister, Linda (Don) Reimann of Hamilton, OH. Bill was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Morphis.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 2, 2015 at the Mount Hope Chapel. Private inurnment will take place at a later date. Memorial contributions may be given to Midland Care, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606 or to the KSU Cancer Center, 1 Chalmers Hall, Manhattan, KS 66506. Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel is assisting the family.
