William D. "Bill" Hayes, 81, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, March 7, 2010 at his home.
He was born November 8, 1928 in Marion County, WV, the son of Ray and Fay (Baker) Hayes.
He was employed 23years for Sun Oil Well and Cementing, Hays, KS and retired after 25 years from Gaines Foods later known as Del Monte Foods, Topeka. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and boating.
Survivors include his wife, Sally (Holbrook) Hayes; his children, Alan Hayes, Green River, WY, Sharon Wood, League City, TX, Pam Haslett, Gardner, KS, Jan Hayes, Thornton, CO, Bill Hayes, Hays, KS, Kim Hayes, Louisville, CO, Jason Hayes, Topeka, KS; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; his brothers, Danny Lewis, Winchester, VA and Dave Lewis, Topeka, KS; his sister, Patty Morgan, Alexandria, VA and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Ray and Dale Hayes, Joe and Andy Lewis, his sister, Dorothy Blanks and a great-granddaughter, Allison Cunningham.
Services will be 11 a.m., Thursday, March 11, 2010 at the Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave, Topeka. Interment will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, Topeka. Mr. Hayes will lie in state after 3 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heart of America Hospice, 3715 SW 29th St., Topeka, KS 66614-2111.
