William D. "Bill" Broughton, 80, of Topeka, passed away January 30, 2014, at Lexington Park. He was born January 24, 1934, in Bronson, Kansas, the son of Dean O. and Ruth Anderson Broughton. He was a graduate of Highland Park High School and worked for the U.S. Postal Service.
On April 16, 1966, in Nowata, Oklahoma, he married Beverly Fickel Sparks. She survives. Other survivors include children, Robert (Barbara) Broughton, of Salina, Darla Hughes, of Topeka, and Rena (Terry) Essman, of Topeka; siblings, Bonnie McCourtney, of Vancouver, Washington, JoAnn Peavler, and Roger (Pam) Broughton, of Topeka; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by siblings, Louis Broughton, Marjorie Miller, and Jewel Staubus. Bill was very active in the North Topeka AA Home Group.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 6, 2014, at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Street, Topeka. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to North Topeka AA Home Group, 3023 NW Lower Silver Lake Road, Topeka, Kansas 66618.
