William C. "Bill" Burney, 95, formerly of Topeka, passed away on Sunday, September 2, 2012 at his daughter's residence in Home, KS.
He was born May 20, 1917 in Springfield, MO, the son of C.R. and Fay (Louzader) Burney.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Valda (Dudgeon), of the Duval, MO community. Survivors include his daughters, Phyllis (Bill) Faulk of Topeka, Jill (Brett) Mathy of Home, KS; his brother, Russell W. (Mary Helen) Burney of Springfield, MO; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Bill was a linotype operator at the Topeka Capital-Journal for 30 years and a life-long member of Lamar Masonic Lodge #292. He was a 1935 graduate of Springfield High School. Bill and Valda traveled to 47 state capitals. He loved his family, sports, history and music, especially Bob Wills.
Mr. Burney was cremated. Memorial ceremonies will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 6, 2012, at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, KS 66604. Private inurnment will take place in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, SW 6th & Gage at a later date.
