William W. "Woody" Bennett, 83, Topeka, passed away Saturday, September 3, 2016 at Aldersgate Village.
Woody was born July 23, 1933 in Topeka, the son of William and Mary (Woodward) Bennett. He graduated from Washburn Rural High School and attended Washburn University and Kansas State University, majoring in Accounting. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He was employed by Santa Fe Railroad in the Accounting Department for over 30 years, retiring in 1994. He later delivered new cars for Laird Noller Ford.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church for over 50 years, Orient Lodge #51 AF & AM, Arab Shrine in the Arab Patrol.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, refinishing and reconstructing antique furniture, playing golf and keeping his home in tip-top shape. He was also an avid gardener.
Woody married Judy Snavely on October 23, 1972. She survives. Other survivors include sons, Steve Winters, Pittsburg, KS, Clay Winters, St. Marys, KS; and grandson, Chase Winters. He was preceded in death by grandson, Chad Winters.
Funeral services will be held at 11: 00 a.m. on Thursday, September 8, 2016 in Klasse Chapel at First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel followed by Masonic services conducted by Orient Lodge #51 AF & AM.
