William "Bill" Beightel

January 31, 1943 — December 4, 2024

Topeka

William “Bill” Beightel, a man of unwavering integrity, boundless compassion, and steadfast devotion to family and community, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2024, at Midland Hospice Care in Topeka, Kansas. Born January 31, 1943, in Holton, Kansas, Bill lived a life defined by service, love, and dedication to those around him.

Bill graduated from Holton High School in 1961 and immediately answered the call to serve his country. He joined the United States Air Force, where he served honorably until his discharge in 1965. Not content to leave his service behind, Bill continued as a member of the Kansas National Guard. His exceptional marksmanship earned him a place on the prestigious All Guard National Combat Pistol Team, where he became a National Combat Pistol Champion for an astounding 13 consecutive years. His commitment, discipline, and competitive edge were evident both on and off the range.

In 1967, Bill continued his life of community service as a police officer with the Topeka Police Department. Over the course of 32 years, he rose through the ranks, retiring in 1998 as a Major. Bill’s career was a testament to his dedication to justice and public safety. He was well respected by his colleagues and he served with honor and humility.

Beyond his many professional accomplishments, Bill was, above all else, a family man. On October 27, 1967, he married the love of his life, Brenda (Fouraker), who stood by his side throughout his extraordinary journey. Together, they built a very close-knit family that was the cornerstone of Bill’s life.

Bill is survived by his devoted wife, Brenda, and their three children: Shelby L. (John) Tejada, Jace W. (Jacque) Beightel, and Andrew G. (Candice) Beightel. He was a proud and doting grandfather to Josiah and William Tejada, Jackson, Easton and Ella Beightel, as well as Alex and Flynn. His grandchildren brought him immense joy, and he cherished every moment with them.

Bill found peace and adventure in the beauty of the mountains of Colorado, a place that brought him countless memories with loved ones. His cheerful spirit and engaging personality made him a beacon of warmth and kindness to all who knew him.

Bill now joins those who preceded him in eternal rest: his parents, Jesse L. and Edith (Jackson) Beightel; his sister, Betty Herbers; and his brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Karen Beightel. Though his absence is deeply felt, his legacy of love, service, and kindness will endure in the hearts of those he touched.
