William "Bill" Ray Beachy, 72, of Topeka, Kansas, passed away Thursday, February 25, 2021.
He was born July 5, 1948, in Hutchinson, Kansas, the son of Vernon and Nora (Miller) Beachy. Bill graduated from Haven High School, Hesston College, Antioch College, and received a Master's Degree from Indiana University.
Bill was employed as the Executive Director for the Topeka Center for Peace and Justice for 20 years, retiring in February 2011. Along with his dedicated work to the Topeka Center for Peace and Justice, Bill served as the Executive Director of the Kansas Democratic Party and Common Cause of Kansas. He was a member of the executive committee of Topeka's NAACP branch and a chairman for the city's Human Relations Commission. Bill managed a successful campaign for Governor John Carlin, and ran the Washington DC office for Kansas Congressman Dan Glickman for 6 years. He served with Mennonite Voluntary Service in Kansas City for two years. Bill was a man of public service and dedicated his life to peace and justice.
Bill was a member of the Topeka Unitarian Fellowship of Topeka, Kansas.
He enjoyed group singing, softball, reading, and a good laugh. Bill loved traveling, especially to stay connected with friends and family. He valued his heritage and relationships within the Amish and Mennonite communities in Yoder, Kansas.
Survivors include his sister, Susan Beachy, Harrisonburg, Va.; brother, Dan (& Tina) Beachy, Harrisonburg, Va.; Brother, Joe Beachy, South Hutchinson, Ks.; and eight nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Becky Felton.
