Willard O. Mcginn

Willard O. McGinn, 90, Tecumseh, formerly of the Garden City area, passed away Thursday, January 15, 2015.

He was born December 5, 1924, in Peterson, Kansas, the son of Robert and Clara (Gass) McGinn.

He grew up in Deerfield, Kansas and attended school in both Deerfield and Holcomb.

He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran serving during WWII, in the European Theatre, as a nose gunner of a B24. He completed 35 combat missions and was awarded three clusters and seven battle stars. During his service, he was shot down three times and was missing in action for 14 days. He proudly served for two years, two months and four days and was discharged as a staff sergeant.

After being discharged from the military, he drilled water wells with his father in the southwest Kansas area and Colorado. He then worked at Masonary Products in Garden City for nearly 20 years. He was a foreman at Triple S Steel, where he retired in 1983. In 1994, Willard and his son-in-law Jeff began J/W Millwright in Garden City, they sold the business in December of 1999.
Willard was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Garden City.

In 2005, Willard and Stella moved to Topeka to be close to grandchildren.
Willard married Stella Rigdon on September 23, 1951 in Deerfield, Kansas. She survives. Other survivors include seven children, Robin McGinn; Roxie Blue; Terry (Suzanne) McGinn; Danny (Lisa) McGinn; Becky Thomas; Beth (Jeff) Eubanks and Melissa (Brooks) Robinson; 21 grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Ruth Holsten and an infant sister.

Funeral services will be 10 am, Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at Christ Lutheran Church, 3509 SW Burlingame Rd., Topeka. Interment with military honors will follow at Denison & South Denison Cemetery, Denison, Kansas.

Visitation will be 6-8 pm on Monday at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave, Topeka.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Leadachild (Sharing the Love of Jesus With Children Around the World Through Christian Education), 1000 SW 10th Ave, Topeka, KS 66604.
