Wilbur Leroy Loney, 80, Topeka, passed away Saturday, May 29, 2004, at a the Colmery O'Neil VA Medical Center.
He was born March 28, 1924 in Akron, CO to an evangelist, Wyatt Leroy "Roy" and Velma (Cox) Loney.
During WWII, Mr. Loney was employed at Luke Field, AZ; later to be named Luke Air Force Base. He was a United States Army veteran og the Korean War. Upon returning from the service, he worked as an auto mechanic in the Topeka area. He took an early retirement for health reasons.
Mr. Loney was a member of Central Church of Christ.
On June 7, 1953, in Tulsa, OK he married Ila M. Crown, she survives. Also surviving are his sons; Robin and his wife Judy Wyatt of Colorado Springs, CO, Keith and his wife Sherri Loney of Lanham, MD, Kerry Loney of Topeka, Doyle and his wife Lynn Loney of Topeka and Gerald Loney of Topeka; his daughters are DeAnna Loney and Cindy Loney both of Topeka; 13 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, along with two brothers; Charles Loney of Reading, KS, Dale Loney of Lakewood, CO and two sisters; Carol Steiger of Mountian View, CA and Nina Alexander of Nixa, MO.
Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 3, 2004, at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Interment will follow in Penwell-Gabel Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Loney will lie in state after 1:00 p.m. today; with a visitation from 6-8:00 p.m.
