Wesley B. "Wes" Ryden, 88, Topeka, passed away on Sunday, September 7, 2008 at a local care center.
Wes was born November 27, 1919 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, the son of Ernst and Elvira (Westling) Ryden. He graduated from Garrison Kansas High School.
He farmed in the Garrison area and later worked for Goodyear and the Topeka Public Library. He retired from the Gas Service Company in Topeka in 1981 after 24 years of service.
He was an active member of Brookwood Covenant Church, served on the Property board and assisted in the supervision of the building of the current church. He was also a member of the Downtown Optimist Club and the Retiree club of KP&L Gas Services.
He was an avid fisherman, bowler and golfer. He enjoyed gardening, particularly raising roses and tomatoes.
Wes married Gladys Peterson on June 25, 1941 in Garrison. She died in 1953. He married Norma Johnson on November 7, 1955. She died in 1977. He married Marguerite Spears on January 15, 1978. She died in 2001. He married Mildred Glover on August 20, 2005. She survives. Other survivors include daughter, Pat (Clay) Stewart, Grandview, MO; son, Dave (Donna) Ryden, Owasso, OK; grandchildren, Jodi Ryden, Max Ryden, Trisha Neal; six great grandchildren; sister, Marcene Jenkins, Pell City, AL; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter and grandson.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 12, 2008 at Brookwood Covenant Church. Private family inurnment will be held at Sunset Cemetery in Manhattan. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th, Topeka.
