Wendell Eugene Yockey, 91, Topeka, passed away Saturday, March 19, 2016 surrounded by his family.

Wendell was born July 21, 1924 in Ottawa, the son of Joe A. and Edna Rachel (Stadel) Yockey.

He graduated from Ottawa High School in 1942 and from the University of Kansas in 1950 and received a Masters of Education in School Administration in 1951 and his Juris Doctor in 1960.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, spending 27 months in the European Theater. He was awarded the Bronze Star. He was proud of his service under Dwight D. Eisenhower, Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force (SHAEF).

He taught school in Lovelock, Reno, and Carson City, NV; and was an attorney for the State of Kansas, Department of Human Resources at the time of his retirement in 1987.

He was a member of First Christian Church where he served as a Trustee, Deacon and Elder; a 60 year member of both Orient Lodge No. 51, AF&AM and Beulah Chapter No.34, OES and Past Patron, Scottish Rite Bodies, York Rite Bodies and Arab Temple, AAONMS, all of Topeka. He was a life member of the KU Alumni Association; member and past President of the Thomas Jefferson Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution; St. Andrews Society; Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity; and American Legion Post No. 1 in Topeka.

Wendell married Pauline Hall on March 13, 1966 in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include a son, Paul (Denna) Yockey, Swannanoa, NC; daughter, Wendy (Gregg) Beaster, Shorewood, WI and two grandchildren, Jillian and Landon Beaster.

He was preceded in death by three siblings, Billy Dean Yockey, Shirley Harris and Joe Yockey, Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 24, 2016 at Mount Hope Cemetery & Funeral Chapel. Private entombment will follow. Eastern Star memorial services will begin at 6:30 pm on Wednesday at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel with visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m.
