Wayne W. Stover

Wayne W. Stover, 100, of Topeka, passed away December 17, 2014 at Aldersgate Village. He was born February 3, 1914 in Topeka, Kansas the son of Harry and Mildred (Williams) Stover. He graduated from Lecompton High School in 1932.

In June of 1948, he married Loeeta Miller. She preceded him in death in 1982. He was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Merle and Harold; and a sister, Nordeane.

He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Rolland "Bert" Bertwell; grandson, Shawn Lawrence; great-granddaughter, Kelsi; and two great-grandsons, Tanner and Trey.

Wayne retired from Westar Energy after working at the Tecumseh Generating Station for 39 years. He was a maintenance foreman. He volunteered as a docent at the Topeka Zoo for eight years.

During WWII, while serving in the U.S. Army, 6th Division, 20th Infantry, Asiatic Pacific Theater, Wayne was awarded the Bronze Star and Distinguished Presidential Citation.

In 1974, he was presented a Meritous Service award from the Shawnee County Sherriff's Department for rescuing two youths from the Kansas River.

He belonged to the Lecompton Historical Society, Electrical Workers Union #304, Oakland United Methodist Church, later the Crestview United Methodist Church, and the Topeka Treasure Hunters Club.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 20, 2014, at the Mount Hope Chapel, 4700 SW 17th Street, Topeka, Kansas 66604. Burial will follow.
