Wayne E. Pence Sr
June 9, 1940 — January 4, 2021
Wayne Pence Sr. died on January 4, 2021 due to complications from Covid-19. He was 80 years old. Wayne was born on June 9, 1940 to Walter and Rose (Olliso) Pence. He graduated from Highland Park High School.
He served four years in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam conflict as a corpsman attached to the marines, and then served further in the Navy Reserves. Wayne worked at the Santa Fe Railroad Shops for many years as a Boilermaker for over 30 years.
In Wayne's retirement years he spent his time with his wife, Jeanne, taking care of grandkids, volunteering at the American Legion Post 1, and working out at the VA.
Wayne was married to his loving wife Jeanne for 55 years. This happy union produced three children, Wayne Jr. (ex-wife Lisa), Lavon (Mike) Weimer, and Jeanette Benson. In addition, Wayne was blessed with seven grandchildren.
Wayne was a social person who maintained loving relationships with not only his immediate family, but with several generations of nieces, nephews, and cousins. His presence and love will be sorely missed.
Wayne is survived by wife Jeanne, children Lavon and Jeanette, grandchildren, Laura, Ryan, Elizabeth, Jordan, Demetrius, Malachi, and Maliah, and sister Connie Seal. Wayne was preceded in death by his father, Walter Pence and mother, Rose Pence; brothers Walter Pence II whom he had a lifelong bond with, Dale Pence, and sisters Penny Streff and Ruth Issacs. His son Wayne Jr. shortly followed him in death on January 9, 2021, also due the Covid-19 virus.

Wayne will lie in state from 12:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 17, 2021 at Penwell-Gabel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, KS 66604. He will lie in state next to his son, Wayne E. Pence, Jr.
