Wayne M. Taylor passed away September 26, 2011 in Topeka, Kansas. He was born September 30, 1925 in Topeka, son of Henry Taylor and Nellie Brewer Taylor.
He was a graduate of Topeka High School and Washburn University. At Washburn, he was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity and active in the Association of Business Students serving as President and conducting the first field trip of business students.
He enjoyed service as a Chamber of Commerce manager in Southeast Kansas in Chanute and Independence, as well as Kansas City, Kansas and Keokuk, Iowa. Following that, he was a Business Manager for Burgwin-Martin Consulting Engineers and a Representative for Equitable Life Assurance Society. In 1979, he moved to Temple, Texas, returning in 1989 after the death of his wife, Barbara Jean, in 1988. He was an avid model railroader, enjoyed attending concerts as a member of Community Concert, Topeka Symphony and Washburn Music Department.
He served his Air Force military unit, the 89th Troop Carrier Group as reunion chairman for eight years. He enjoyed travel, touring the UK, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Spain and numerous auto trips in America.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barabara Jean; his sister, Margaret Ann Dunlap and his brother, Henry Taylor. He is survived by sons, Thomas Taylor of Topeka and Andrew Taylor of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; step-sons, Christopher Teplansky of Temple, Texas and Robert Teplansky of Nortboro, Massachusetts; 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, October 1, 2011 at Grace Episcopal Church. Burial will follow Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, September 30 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
