Wayne C. Christensen

Wayne Christensen, 82, of Topeka, died on Wednesday, March 25, 2015.

Wayne was born October 14th, 1932 near Shubert, Nebraska. Wayne was the oldest son of Peter Christensen and Beulah (Keithley) Christensen. Wayne graduated from Verdon High School in 1951.

He met Carol Rose Montgomery in Stella, Nebraska and they were married on May 25, 1952. They had two sons, Kevin in 1961 and Terry in 1965. As a family, they enjoyed many years of camping with the Topeks Camping Club.

Wayne worked for Palmer News in Topeka for 25 years and started WC Christensen Trucking, hauling magazines for Palmer News. Wayne took over his Dad's contract to haul newspapers for the Topeka Capital-Journal, delivering newspapers for 29 years. Wayne always had an entrepreneurial spirit, being a part owner in the Challenge Arcade/Sandwich Shops and the Quality Quik Lube in Topeka.

After his first wife Carol passed away in 1996, he was married to Sharon Putney in 1998.

Wayne was preceded in death by both his parents, a brother Wade who died during childhood and his younger brother, Dallas. Wayne was a member of Golden Rule #90 Masonic Lodge, High Twelve Club, the Arab Shrine Ritualistic Cast, the Rotary Club of Topeka, the Topeka's Camping Club and Faith Lutheran Church. He is survived by his sons Kevin and Terry, by his brother Doug and several grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8 at the Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel in Topeka; the family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial of cremated remains will take place at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery in Topeka at a later date.
