Wava Simons, 87, of Topeka, passed away on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at Lexington Park nursing facility. She was born November 20, 1924 in Topeka, the daughter of Marion and Julia Ashworth Wiles. She graduated from Highland Park High School in 1943.
Wava had resided in Quinter, KS for 32 years before returning to Topeka in June of 2011. She was a member of the Church of the Brethren in Quinter and Trinity Presbyterian Church in Topeka. She completed the Menninger Bible Study course. She and her husband owned and operated Simons Carpet Company located at 29th & Fairlawn Rd. in Topeka and an antique and gift shop called The Windmill in Quinter. She was also a homemaker.
Wava married James E. Simons on March 31, 1944 in Topeka. He survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Cheryl Lindstrom and Rhonda Botsford, both of Topeka, four grandchildren, Kirsten Khire, Jennifer Engel, Ben Bowden and Julie Rand and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. Wava will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:00-7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Trinity Presbyterian Church, 4746 S.W. 21st St., Topeka, KS 66604.
