Warren George "Doc" Turner, second son of Thomas George Turner and Violet (Franklin) Turner, was born on a farm in Norwood, Missouri on August 18, 1935. The Turner Family, dad, mom, and six children at the time, traveling by train, moved to North Topeka in 1942.
Doc attended Quincy Grade School and Curtis Junior High. After the flood in 1951, Doc took a job at the Santa Fe Railroad to help support the growing Turner Family (which grew to 10 children over the years). Doc remained employed at Santa Fe until he retired in 1996.
Doc met and married the love of his life, Helen Louise Smith, and they were married for 64 years. Helen passed away on March 16, 2020. Survivors include two children: daughter Kimberly Jo McCoy (Mark), and son Timothy Warren Turner (Nancy), both of Topeka. Grandson Tyler Alexander Turner, Topeka; granddaughters Abby Marie Turner, Kansas City; and Anya Joann Turner, Topeka, and great grandson Colin Alexander Turner, Topeka.
Doc was preceded in death by his parents; brother Thomas "Wayne" Turner and Wallace "Jay" Turner, and sister, Willa "May" Bufalo.
Other survivors include sisters Wilma Fay Cravens, Round Rock, Texas; Kay Jones (Steve), Topeka; Betty Booth (Ron) Colorado; and brother Ben Turner (Cheryl) Larry Turner (Debbie), and Jerry Turner (Angie), all of Topeka. Brothers in law Dean Smith (Sharon), and Ed Pruitt, Alachua, Florida. Doc will also be dearly missed by his loving extended family and friends.
This writing would not be complete without mentioning Doc and Helen's dear friends Harvey and Vicky Harris. Over the years the four of them had many fun road trips across the country. They just clicked, and really enjoyed spending time together.
Doc will also be dearly missed by his companion dog, "Saydee." He Always said she was what got him through each day.
Memorial Services in memory of both Doc and Helen will take place at 11am Friday, January 17, 2025 at Penwell Gabel Funeral Home. Memorial contributions in their memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.
