Warren Ray Tevis

Warren Ray Tevis, 86, of Topeka, passed away on Tuesday, September 13, 2005 at Brewster Place. He was born on June 30, 1919 in Berryton, the son of Walter Burton and Bessie Bell Baber Tevis. He was a life long Topeka resident. He graduated from Seaman High School in 1938. Warren was a Navy veteran of WWII. He was a carpenter by trade and Construction Superintendent for Jayhawk Construction Company for over 35 years. He was a member of Seabrook Congregational United Church Of Christ where he served in many capacities, the Masonic Lodge and served on the board at Brewster Place. Warren married Eura Murrel Woodard on August 10, 1940 in Ellensburg, WA. She preceded him in death on October 14, 1986. Survivors include two daughters, Karen and her husband, Leland Elliott of Montrose, CO, Connie and her husband, Wilfred Hadl of Lawrence, two sons, Phil and his wife, Rhonda Tevis of Berryton, Randall and his wife, Pam Tevis of Topeka, seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, one sister, Irene Rowe Lewis of Kansas City, KS and one brother, Paul Tevis of Kansas City, MO. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Lori Elliott Jones on September 3, 2002. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will follow in Pleasant HIll Cemetery southeast of Topeka. Mr. Tevis will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will receive friends from 7:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday evening. Memorial contributions may be given to First Congregational Church, 1701 S.W. Collins Ave., Topeka, Ks. 66604 or Brewster Place Charity Care Fund, 1205 S.W. 29th St., Topeka, Ks. 66611 or Midland Hospice Care, 200 S.W. Frazier Circle, Topeka, Ks. 66606.
