Warren Ray Anderson

February 1, 1947 — March 28, 2025

Warren “Ray” Anderson, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully in Topeka, Kansas, on March 28, 2025, at the age of 78. Born February 1, 1947, in Emporia, Kansas, Ray embodied many admirable qualities throughout his life.

As a graduate of Burlington High School in 1965, Ray went on to earn his Bachelor’s degree in Art, with an emphasis in Ceramics from the University of Kansas in 1970. His commitment to public service was evident through his dedicated career spanning over 20 years with the City of Topeka. Ray’s intelligence and quick-witted humor made him a cherished colleague and friend to many.

In 1974, Ray married the love of his life, Maria Torrez Anderson, in Topeka, Kansas. Together they built a home filled with laughter, creativity, and love. Ray was a devoted family man, dedicating much of his time to raising their daughters, Trisha and Tory. His grandchildren, Addison and Anderson Vest, and Ricky Allen IV, were a source of joy for him, and he poured his heart into creating cherished memories with them.

Ray was a multifaceted individual, with interests ranging from gathering angel memorabilia to exploring his artistic side through painting, pottery, and creating handmade greeting cards for special occasions. Gardening brought him peace, while his love for history and travel enriched his understanding of the world. He could often be found immersed in conversations with those around him, always eager to share stories and experiences. His kind heart extended to all animals, embodying a spirit of compassion that touched everyone he met.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Maria; daughters Trisha Vest (Justin) and Tory Allen (Ricky); grandchildren Addison Vest, Anderson Vest, and Ricky Allen IV; brother Joseph Anderson (Liz); sister Barbara Schmidt (Ron); and sister-in-law Patty Anderson.

Ray will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He is now reunited with his beloved family members who passed before him, including his father, Ernest Anderson; mother, Marjorie Paden; and brothers, Edwin Anderson and James Anderson (Tami).

A celebration of Ray’s life will be held on April 8, 2025, at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home in Topeka, Kansas from 5:00pm-7:00pm. The family invites all who knew and loved him to attend and honor the legacy of a remarkable man who touched so many lives with his humor, creativity, and love.
