Wanda Irene Swanson, 76, went to her heavenly home on Sunday, April 26th, 2015 surrounded by family.
Wanda was born on January 6th, 1939 to John W. and Elsie Irene (Reynolds) Jones at Oxbow Bend, near Fredonia, Kansas. She had the distinction of being the first baby of the year born in Wilson County.
After graduation from Fredonia High School she moved to Topeka, Kansas where she met a tall handsome young man, Dean L. Swanson, who became her husband on June 2nd, 1957.
She enjoyed many hobbies, including gardening, raising animals, crafts, cake decorating, oil painting, and cooking. She was always a country girl at heart and enjoyed camping and being outdoors.
While she had several different jobs, her longest and most important was being a wife, mother and a homemaker.
Among those waiting to greet her in heaven are her parents; her grandparents, John I. and Elsie E. Jones, who raised her after the age of 12; her sister Arilla "Dollie" Mizell, and a great granddaughter.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Dean; five children – Tammy (Ken) Beaver, Debby (Ken) Grittman, Greg (Suzy) Swanson, Tresa (Danny) McDysan, Darca (Emmet) Millard; 12 grandchildren – David and John Beaver; Jeff Grittman and Shelby (Kyle) Brooks; Anna, Megan, and Brittney Swanson; Justin, Jessica, and Jenny McDysan; Jayme (Nick) Newsom and Bobby Millard; and 7 great grandchildren. All are in the Topeka area. Brother, Jimmy Jones, of Fredonia, Kansas.
Family will meet with friends at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave, Topeka, on Wednesday, April 29th from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm.
There will be a private interment at Mount Hope Cemetery according to her wishes.
In remembrance of her love for animals, memorial contributions may be made to the Helping Hands Humane Society, 5720 SW 21st, Topeka, KS 66604.
