Walter R. Schreiner, 96, Topeka, passed away Monday, July 10, 2023.
He was born November 4, 1926, in St. Peter, Kansas, the son of John and Beata (Knoll) Schreiner. Walter graduated from the School for the Blind in Kansas City, Kansas and worked as an upholsterer in the Topeka area for over 50 years before he retired.
He was a member of local and state wide associations for the visually impaired and served terms in leadership roles.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Genevieve Schreiner; two sons, Walter M. Schreiner and Don Schreiner; three grandchildren;10 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren and one on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Richard Schreiner, Michael Schreiner, Ray Schreiner, and one sister, Mary Webb.
Walter loved music, recording, and his stereo equipment. He also enjoyed gardening, listening to his talking books, and was the absolute best at scrabble.
Visitation will begin at 10am, followed by funeral services at 11am Friday, July 14, 2023 at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Mid-Town Chapel. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.
