Walter Ivan Netson, 87, Topeka, died Friday, March 18, 2005 at Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center.
He was born Aug. 9, 1917 in Cleburne, KS the son of William Allen and Ethel Pretz Netson.
Walter attended Cleburne Schools in Cleburne, KS. He went to U.S. Army Quartermaster Schools, U.S. Army Command and General Staff College in Leavenworth. Walter enlisted in the U.S. Army Sept. 19, 1941. He retired from the Kansas Army National Guard on Aug. 31, 1977 as a Lt. Colonel.
Walter was past president of the Topeka West Rotary Club, (Paul Harrison Fellow). Mr. Netson was a member of the American Legion Capitol Post No. 1, Life member of the Kansas National Guard Association and National Guard Retired Officers Association of Kansas and U.S. Retired Officers Association, MOWW, First Presbyterian Church, and a former member of Shawnee Country Club.
He married Dorothy Miller, in San Antonio, TX on March 25, 1945. She survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Kay Nash, Topeka; step-son, Glenn Butler, Topeka; granddaughter, Tracie Brugge, Richardson, TX; grandson, Allen Nash, Houston, TX.
A funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday 3-21-2005 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Interment will be in Penwell-Gabel's Memorial Park Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
Mr. Netson will lie in state after 12:00 noon Sunday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Sunday.
