Walter Louis Van Vleck passed away Sunday, January 14, 2007 at Stormont Vail Hospital. Walt was born March 16, 1913 in Rossville, KS, the son of Walter Van Vleck and Bessie Gutshall Van Vleck. He graduated from Rossville High School and received his bachelor's degree from Kansas Business College.
He married Ila McClamma on September 25, 1945 in Kodiak, AS. She preceded him in death on September 10, 1994.
Walter had his own family business that he formed after returning home from World War II where he spent four years in the Navy in Alaska as Chief Warrant Officer.
Walt was a long time member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church where he served for many years.
He married Margaret Hensley on November 4, 1995 in Worthington, OH. She survives.
Other survivors include a sister, Gladys Chilsom, Auburn, WA; a brother, Marvin Van Vleck, Atlanta, GA; a brother, Omer Van Vleck, Rossville, KS; two daughters, Faye Spratley, Worthington, OH and Lou Dickson, Evanston, IL; one step-son, Robert Hensley, Stark, MD; two son-in-laws, Bill Spratley and Pete Dickson; and four grandchildren, Bill Spratley, Bob Spratley, Allison Dickson and Hamish Dickson. He has two great-grandchildren, Zena and Hannah Spratley. He was preceded in death by a brother Frank Van Vleck.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Avenue, Topeka, KS. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 18th at 11:00 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church at 1275 Boswell St. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery following the funeral service.
