Walter Iverson Cole, Jr., 76, of Topeka, passed away, Monday, March 10, 2008 at Stormont-Vail Hospital of complications from pneumonia.
He was born December 25, 1931 in Sabetha, Kansas the son of Walter I. and Teresa (Tucker) Cole.
Walter was a 1949 graduate of Topeka High School and received his Bachelor's degree in Economics from the University of Kansas in 1953. He was member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity and was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2002.
He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Philippine Sea.
He was a partner with Beecroft-Cole and Co., a Topeka investment firm, until his retirement.
He enjoyed reading, chess, astronomy and birding.
Walter married JoAnn Boies October 8, 1960. They were divorced. He married Nancy L. Moore December 12, 1987 at Cole's Point West in Colorado. She survives. Other survivors include a son David, and his wife Jeanne, and their children Catherine, Brian, and Andrew of Centennial, Co.; a daughter Elizabeth Cole Munns and her husband Hunter, and their children Avery and Jordan of Topeka. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Marcia Saville.
Cremation is planned. Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 14, 2008 at Central Congregational Church.
