Vonda Kay Bartley

Vonda Kay Bartley, age 53, passed peacefully on Saturday, March 2, 2019, at Stormont Vail Hospital. She was born December 4, 1965 in Topeka, KS to Elana Bigenwalt and Donald Bartley. Vonda saw herself a perpetual wild child and with age came to the mantle of a protector of many outcasts. As a mother, she fervently supported her children's creative endeavors. She often extended her motherly love to the many troubled children her own children befriended, leading many to consider her their own mother as well. For this she is loved and remembered countrywide, and in fact, worldwide. She loved Metal and frequently received noise complaints. And yet she was also a shopaholic with an eye for any and everything gaudy and pink. Her favorite movies were anything with Doris Day. For a woman who prided herself on being Irish, she nonetheless adored the Monarchy, being one of the thousands of young women who idolized the beauty and activism of Princess Diana. When asked what she thought her meaning on this earth was, Vonda responded, "I believe I was meant to be a mother". For Vonda, even her chihuahuas, Lucy and Juggs, were doted on the same as human children.

Vonda is survived by her son and daughter, Chase and Tara, as well her son-in-law Brennan, her brother Donnie, her nieces and nephew, Jayde, Regan, and Blayne, her best friend Sheryl, and her numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins scattered across Kansas to Kentucky.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Avenue, Topeka. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

Inurnment will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 11, 2019 at Memorial Park Cemetery, 6th & Gage.
