Vivian "Pearl" Vernon, 96, Topeka, Died Monday, June 9, 2003 at Aldersgate Village. She was born Sept. 8, 1906 in Gypsum, Kansas to Stephen J. and Grace Myers Wright. She had resided in Pauline most of her life.
She graduated from Maple Hill High School, and was a teacher, homemaker and part-time bookkeeper at Pauline Co-op Elevator. She was a member of Central Presbyterian Church, the Order of the Eastern Star, Clarice Chapter, for over 68 years, and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She married Louis V. Vernon on June 5, 1929. He died on Feb. 3, 1995. also preceding her in death were two brothers and one sister.
Surviving are a son, Gayle Vernon of Topeka; a daughter, Patricia Pearl Howard of Albuquerque; two sisters, Jessie McMaster of Topeka, and Irene Eden of Lawrence; five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren.
Services will be at 3p.m. Friday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Vernon will lie in state after 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Good Samaritan Fund, Aldersgate Village, 7220 Asbury Dr. Topeka, KS 66614.
