Virginia (Flin) Whitney, passed away on Sunday, November 1, 2009 at the age of 83.
She was born January 9, 1926 in rural Frankfort, the daughter of Owen and Ida (Bloomberg) Flin. She attended Osborn grade school and graduated from Frankfort High School in 1943. She attended summer school at K-State and taught country grade school for 2 years, after which she moved to Topeka and worked at Santa Fe Railroad, now BNSF. She also worked for Heifner nursery and retired from Santa Fe Credit Union in 1990.
She was a long time member of Crestview United Methodist Church and also a member of Agape Circle and Keenagers at the church.
Virginia married Charles Whitney on March 6, 1949. He died in 2004. Survivors include daughter, Janis Duran; son, Terry Whitney, both of Topeka; grandchildren, Kristen Pitt, Sean Pitt; and great grandson, Josh Pitt. She was also preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 6, 2009 at Crestview United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. Virginia will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel after 2:00 p.m. on Thursday and visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
