OBITUARY
Virginia Malee Boyd Rogers, 81, of Topeka, passed away, Tuesday, January 6, 2004 at Aldersgate. She was born in Stafford, Kansas on September 14, 1922 to Dr. Ernest E. and Ruth Milton Boyd.
She graduated from Stafford High School, attended Cottey College in Nevada, Missouri, and graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in Dietetics and Instututional Management. She completed a one year internship in Dietetics at Harborview Hospital in Seattle, Washington.
She spent four years as a First Lieutenant in the Army Womens' Medical Specialist Corps as a dietitian. In 1952 she married Dr. Henry H. Rogers. He preceded her in death.
Her civilian professional life included working two years in Houston, Texas and twenty six years as Director of Dietetics at Memorial Hospital in Topeka. In 1980 she was chosen as the Distinguished Kansas Dietitian.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the American Dietetic Association the Kansas Dietetic Association, Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and a charter member of Chapter GK, P.E.O.
After her retirement, she volunteered at the Topeka-Shawnee County Public Library, the Christmas Bureau, and the Kansas State Historical Society.
She is survived by her sister, Mary Lou Railsback, of Topeka.
Cremation is planned. Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 9, 2004 at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Graveside services will be held 1:00 pm Saturday January 10, 2004 at the Stafford Cemetery.
