Virginia Lee Mansfield

Virginia Lee Wells Mansfield was born July 15,1926 to George Ernest Wells and Edith Dorothy Miller Wells. She grew up in Topeka. She graduated from Topeka High School in 1944. She married V. Victor Mansfield on July 16, 1944. They had four children: Phillip Mansfield, Thomas Mansfield, Gerald Mansfield and Nancy Mansfield Merritt. They were divorced in1959. Virginia was graduated from Stewarts Beauty College and worked in the Pelletier’s Beauty Shop. She worked at the at the Children’s Detention Home. She later worked at Topeka State Hospital before going to work at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital. She retired from the Veteran’s Administration Hospital as a Licensed Mental Health technician after 25 years of service. She also did some private duty nursing. She was a long time member of West Side Baptist Church having joined in the early 1950’s. She was a member of Phi Sigma Alpha for a number of years. She belonged to the Oakland and East Topeka Senior Citizens group for about 20 years. She volunteered as a member of the special projects committee for Doorstep. She volunteered in the retail shop for Dovetail. She was a volunteer at Friendship Meals. She belonged to Country Quilters. She enjoyed traveling, reading, cooking, sewing and the theater. She was blessed with a family that she loved dearly. She had a heartfelt gratitude to her church for loving and nurturing her and her family and the privilege of having so many loving friends with whom to share her journey here. Memorial contributions may be made in her honor to the West Side Baptist Church 1008 S.W. 4th Street, Topeka, KS 66606.
