Virginia Mae (Black) Fuller departed this life and entered into the arms of her Lord & Savior on Thursday, February 13th at the age of 92. She was born in Topeka on January 22, 1922, the daughter of Walter R. & Maude Summers Black.
Virginia attended area schools and lived most of her life in Topeka. She worked for the Topeka Capital Journal from 1952 until her retirement in 1987.
She was a born-again Christian and a member of Topeka First Assembly of God Church where she was active for over 60 years. She sang in the choir for 29 years, was a children's Sunday School teacher, a greeter and a member of the Senior Prime Timers. Virginia loved missions and went on mission trips to Costa Rica, Mexico and served on local missions. Her last mission to Mexico was completed at the age of 76 where she worked on a construction team. Throughout her years she served on various committees, visited shut-ins and care homes and was always willing to serve where needed. No job was too small; her only desire was to serve her Lord.
Virginia was humble in spirit but strong and determined: her desire that all people know Christ. She was a very loving and gentle person and never questioned those in need. Although she herself lived a simple life, she was rich in faith and abundant in love, understanding, forgiveness, and mercy.
Virginia loved animals and loved to travel. Her beloved dogs were her children. Her dream of visiting the Holy Lands and walking where Jesus walked was realized in 1978. In 2002, for her 80th birthday, she cruised on a ship and toured the Hawaiian Islands, another dream come true.
Mrs. Fuller was married and widowed at a young age. She was preceded in death by Ernest Fuller, her parents, Walter and Maude Black, and three sisters, Mildred Root, Vera Zeller and Norma Garner Tyson. She is survived by many nieces and nephews, her dear friends and her beloved church family.
A celebration of her life will be held at noon on Monday, February 17th, at Topeka First Assembly of God Church, 500 SW 27th, with burial following at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, 6th and Gage, Topeka. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service. Mrs. Fuller will lie in state from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. Sunday, February 16th, at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, Topeka.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Topeka First Assembly of God Church.
