Virginia Landis Vincent "Grandma George", 89, of Topeka, passed away Thursday, April 15, 2010.
She was born January 2, 1921 in Abilene, KS, the daughter of Harrison B. and Ethel M. (McCullough) Landis. She was a graduate of Abilene High School. She attended Kansas State University where she met and later married George Brinton "Grandpa George" Vincent on December 22, 1942 in Abilene, KS. She and her husband owned and operated the Dairy Queen and later Vincent's Western Wear in Topeka.
She was a member and past Queen of Job's Daughters in Abilene and played in numerous bridge clubs in Topeka.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George, son-in-law, Dalbert Burkhardt and brother, Benjamin H. Landis. Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Burkhardt, Topeka; a son, Bob (Evelyn) Vincent, Lyndon; seven grandchildren, Debbie Burkhardt, Vincent (Nancy) Burkhardt, Ronnie Burkhardt, Heath (Tricia) Burkhardt, Brint Vincent, Mark (Lea) Vincent, and Jeannie Vincent and eleven great-grandchildren, Nicole and Kristi Murray, Kyle, Justin, Derrick, Torey, Taylor and Taryn Burkhardt, Chloe and Anna Vincent, Jackson Ross (Burkhardt).
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Monday, April 19, 2010 at the Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave, Topeka. Cremation will follow the services and private inurnment will be at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, Topeka at a later date. Mrs. Vincent will lie in state after 12 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Care Hospice of Kansas, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606.
