Virginia McCarter LaCrone, 88, pasted away Saturday, October 4, 2008 at Aldersgate Village. She was born April 2, 1920 in Jackson County, KS the second of five children born to Francis Fern and Eva May Stone McCarter.
Virginia graduated from Topeka High School in 1938, Ottawa University with a Bachelors degree in 1967 and Western State College with a Masters degree in 1972. She worked for AT & SF Railroad as a secretary typist from 1942-1956. She taught at Mesa County Valley School District Number 51 from 1967-1985. Virginia also worked for Central Baptist Theological Seminary as a secretary from 1962-1963. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star No. 178, Mesa Valley Education Association, The National Writers Club and First Baptist Church.
On February 21, 1951 Virginia married Roy F. LaCrone in Topeka; he preceded her in death on January 20, 1962. Virginia traveled extensively in her retirement years. She was an excellent seamstress and made most of her clothing. She also enjoyed writing and had several short stories published in newspapers and magazines.
She is survived by one sister, Laura (Roy) Simpson of Wichita, KS; one brother, Joe B. (Darlene) McCarter of Topeka; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Jeanne Conolle and Audre Rose.
Mrs. LaCrone was cremated. Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 9 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave, Topeka, KS. Memorial contributions may be made to Heart of America Hospice, 3715 SW 29th St, Topeka, KS66614.
