Virginia R. Innes, 85, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, October 8, 2005 at Lexington Park Nursing Center.
She was born May 22, 1920 in rural Reno county, the daughter of William H. and Ruby A. Eisminger Ricksecker.
She was a 1938 graduate of Partridge High School, Partridge, KS. She then graduated from Salt Creek Business College in 1940. She was a homemaker and devoted mother, beginning her business career in 1962. She was the executive secretary for the Commissioner of Education, retiring in 1985. She was a charter member of the Tau Kappa Omega business sorority from 1948 until her death. She was a member of Women of the Moose, ABWA, Order of the Eastern Star and the Shrine Nobelles. She was a Woman of the Year for the ABWA. She was an avid quilter and loved to travel. She will be truly missed by her loving family. Saturday morning will never be the same.
She married John L. Innes, Sr. on July 3, 1941 in Miami, OK. He preceded her in death on March 16, 1973. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Jack Ricksecker in 1986.
Survivors include three daughters, Jean Ann Colter and her husband Charles, Tecumseh, Debra Walburn and her husband Dale, Auburn, Polly McInroy and her husband Doug, Perry; two sons, John L. Innes and his wife Jeanine, New London, MN, and James W. Innes, Topeka; a sister, June Spaniol, Casper, WY; sister in law, Glenda Ricksecker, Nickerson, KS; 13 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
Mrs. Innes will lie in state after 1:00 pm, Wednesday, October 12 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will greet friends from 7:00 to 8:30 pm that evening. A funeral service wil be held at 1:30 pm, Thursday, October 13 at the Mount Hope Mausoleum Chapel with burial to follow in the cemetery.
