Virginia I. Rusch, 95, of Topeka, passed away on Thursday, January 13, 2011 at McCrite Plaza Health Center. She was born November 13, 1915 in Tevis, Shawnee Co., KS, the only child of Joseph A. and Bertha B. Fergel Rohler.
She lived most of her life in the Berryton area, graduating from Berryton High School in 1934. On September 2, 1939, she married her high school sweetheart, Lawrence W. Rusch. They farmed in the Berryton area. Virginia attended Stricklers Business College, and then worked in Manhattan, KS for the ASC (Soil Conservation). During WWII, she worked at the Supply Depot in Topeka. She retired from the U.S. Government Selective Service Board in 1972. She was a member of the Highland Park United Methodist Church.
Her husband, Lawrence, passed away on February 10, 1998. Survivors include her cousins; Alberta and Bill Breece, Freda Gurss, Nellie and John Miles, Kay and Tony Weiler, Gladys Veldhuizen and Kenneth Fergel.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in the Mount Hope Abbey Chapel where the family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Highland Park United Methodist Church, 2914 SE Michigan Ave., Topeka, KS 66605. Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
